J. Alex Martin
Chairman of the Board
A 40-year, veteran corporate executive of the healthcare and medical device industries, Mr. Martin brings an accomplished track record for growing corporate revenue and successfully transforming global businesses. Mr. Martin was the President and CEO of Coherex Medical, where he led the company to a successful exit with Biosense Webster (a Johnson and Johnson company), in November 2015. Prior to Coherex, Mr. Martin was the President and CEO of WorldHeart Corporation, where he led the company to a successful exit with HeartWare in August 2012. Previously, Mr. Martin has held senior leadership roles with Edwards Lifesciences, Cordis Corporation, a Johnson & Johnson Company, and SonaMed Corporation. Currently, Mr. Martin is Chairman of the Board of NeoChord, a privately held medical device company focused on heart mitral valve repair for degenerative mitral regurgitation. Mr. Martin holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky.
President and Chief Executive Officer
Jim Dillon started at St. Jude Medical in 2011 and has held a series of increasingly responsible corporate strategic and sales leadership positions. Within these roles, he drove market development and new technology adoption, executed capital/consumable sales strategies and built high performance elite commercial teams focused on the sales and marketing of complex and innovative medical devices. Mr. Dillon was also involved with multiple highly successful medical device companies including startups VNUS Medical Technologies, Perclose, Heart Technologies, and Devices for Vascular Intervention as a key contributor to their acquisition and exit, as well as providing prominent leadership related to both sales and business development. Prior to joining St. Jude, he also held senior executive sales and marketing positions with such companies as Abiomed, TherOx and InfraReDx, where he was intimately involved with global clinical development and commercial distribution.
Chief Medical Officer
A veteran in the field of biomedical engineering and cardiology and one of the original developers of RenalGuard Therapy®, Dr. Levin brings more than 35 years of clinical and commercial healthcare experience to his role. Dr. Levin’s inventions and co-inventions have helped launch multiple products and companies in the cardiology, renal and respiratory fields. He is also president, chief scientific officer and co-founder of Coridea, LLC, a medical device incubator that translates ideas into new therapeutic options for patients. As a heart failure/transplant cardiologist and former medical director of the Mechanical Cardiac Support Program at Columbia Presbyterian, Dr. Levin brings extensive clinical and academic experience to the company’s management team. Dr. Levin received his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Chief Technology Officer
Andrew Halpert has more than 20 years of experience in the medical device industry. Previously, he worked for Coridea, a medical device incubator, where he developed a number of new medical products, including the initial prototype RenalGuard System™. He acquired start-up experience as a member of the team that developed CHF Solution’s Aquadex System, and led a team of engineering interns who built and tested the Dobelle Institute’s first wearable artificial vision system to restore vision to blind volunteers. Mr. Halpert received his M.B.A. degree from Babson College and his B.S. in electrical engineering from Columbia University.
Gregory W. Mann
Managing Director, Chief Business and Financial Officer
Gregory W. Mann has held a variety of CFO and M&A roles across his career. Previously, Mr. Mann was Business Unit CFO of the Healthcare, Insurance, Financial Transformation, and Emerging Markets business units at Virtusa Corp, a publicly traded IT services company. At Virtusa, Mr. Mann was involved in its successful IPO, and responsible for the company’s M&A activity. Prior to Virtusa, he held various finance and M&A roles of increasing responsibility at companies including Acusphere, InterGen Energy, and BeFree Inc. Mr. Mann serves on the board of advisors for two privately held med-tech companies and also serves on the board of several non-profit organizations.
Kenneth J. Luppi
Vice President, Operations
Ken Luppi came to PLC Medical Systems in 1993 as Director of Service Operations, after spending a number of years as National Service Manager for Candela Laser Corporation, a medical laser company. In 1997, he was named Vice President of Operations for PLC Medical Systems, and has served in that capacity since then. Ken received his B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University.
